One of William Meredith's best known former
students is Michael Collier, published poet, professor of
English at the University of Maryland, and director of the
Breadloaf Writer's Conference. The letters between William
and Michael indicate the impact that William, not
only as a poet but also as a teacher, mentor, and friend, had on
his students. Included in this correspondence are letters
informing Michael that he has been accepted to attend
Breadloaf which are particularly interesting in light of
the position he currently holds there. Also included are
several poems written by Collier that were inspired by or
dedicated to Meredith.
