Substitute/Absence policy for the Language Lab

Student assistants may be absent from their shift providing they have found an appropriate substitute. This may be done by posting a "sub" notice at the front desk. You, the student worker, are responsible for finding your own sub. If a sub is not found, the worker remains responsible for his or her shift. Failure to secure a sub for a work shift or failure to appear for a scheduled work shift will be considered a NO SHOW.

In cases of emergency or illness when you are unable to make your shift, you must speak directly with Sylvia Malizia (x2121) or Marisa Castagno (x5387). You may not leave word with another student who is on duty. Play practices, dance rehearsals, meetings, sports matches, etc., do not constitute emergencies. You must get a substitute in advance of such events.

"No Shows"

If you receive two "no shows" you will receive a written warning that your job is in jeopardy. If you receive three "no shows" you will be terminated from your job. If you arrive late for work three times it is considered a "no show".

In Case of Illness

If you are absent from your shift because of illness for 3 shifts in a row (not on the same day) or 4 shifts over the semester, we require a note from the infirmary or from your personal physician. If you are absent for more than 4 shifts, you will be subject to dismissal.

All of the above mentioned rules are intended to ensure that we provide the best possible service for our public. Without your help we cannot run the language lab. We value and respect you as student employees, please respect the job you do for us. If you have questions regarding this policy, please contact Marisa Castagno (x5387).
