Students
Against Violence to the Environment (SAVE)
SAVE is the college’s main environmental
activist group. They work on a wide array of issues ranging
from the destruction of rainforests to drilling for oil in
the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Their activities include
educating the campus through information tables in the College
Center and panel discussions, sponsoring clean-up projects,
and organizing petition drives and letter writing campaigns
to government officials about particular issues of interest.
SAVE’s biggest annual event is Earth Day, a day of celebration
and education for all of Southeastern Connecticut. |

Sprout!
Sprout! is the College's sustainable gardening
initiative, educating the Conn community about sustainable
agriculture, promoting the purchase of locally and organically
grown foods, supplying sustainably/organically grown foods
to the dining halls, and providing a means to learn about
sustainable agriculture firsthand by working in the on-campus
garden. |

Renewable Energy Club
The Renewable Energy Club was formed in the spring of 2001 during
the efforts to persuade the college to purchase some of its
electricity from clean, renewable sources. Today the group works
on educating the campus about energy efficiency and conservation,
as well as continuing the drive to switch the entire campus
electric load to renewable energy. |

Earth House
Earth House is a residential house for seven students attempting
to live more sustainably and to set an example for their peers.
Earth House students cook all vegetarian meals, have a heightened
awareness of energy and resource conservation, and are actively
working to create a naturalistic landscape around the house.
