Arbo Project

The Arbo Project is a program sponsored by the Connecticut College Arboretum and the Office of Volunteers for Community Service. Students from Connecticut College lead tours and/ or classroom sessions for school aged children through the arboretum. All tours last about one hour and can be adapted to meet the needs of the curriculum of the specific class.

Fall tours: take place during the school year from mid-September to early November. Topics include decomposition, why leaves turn colors in fall, animals of the arboretum and tree uses and preservation.

Winter: from the last week in January until the first week in
March, Arbo Project volunteers are available to give lessons in the
classroom about the arboretum in winter. These lessons are a great
opportunity in preparation for a spring tour.

Spring tours: take place from the last week in March until the first week in May.Tour topics include spring wildflowers, plant germination, baby animals and pond life.

Rides are available by the college for thirteen children and one adult in New London. For information about scheduling a tour, please call Tracee Reiser at (860)439-2458.

Summer tours for children may be arranged by contacting the Arboretum at (860) 439-5060.
