Green Living at Connecticut College

The Environmental Model Committee
(EMC)

The Environmental Model Committee (EMC) is a standing College committee responsible for developing programs and policies that integrate environmental sustainability into all aspects of campus life, with the intention of transforming the campus into a successful environmental model that students can take with them and emulate in their careers after Connecticut College.

The committee is made up of representatives from all areas of the campus community. Meetings are open to anyone in the College community, and students are especially encouraged to participate.

Among the successes of the Environmental Model Committee are:

*The creation of the Campus Environmental Coordinator position and the Summer Sustainability Internship

*The development of several campus policies and programs, such as the Green Building Policy, the Renewable Energy Policy, the Paper Policy, and the Energy Conservation & Efficiency Fund

*Improvements to the campus recycling system

*Heightened attention to sustainability in the areas of purchasing and capital projects
