The Theater Department sponsors four mainstage productions with faculty or guest directing three, and a senior student directing the fourth, as well as a one-act festival produced as the final project of the advanced directing class. Students usually produce six to ten shows each year in our small classroom/lab theater In addition, workshop productions often evolve from advanced students' work in acting, playwriting, directing, lighting and stage design.

All auditions are open to the entire student body. Freshmen are frequently cast in both Mainstage and student productions. In addition to acting, many students become involved in the technical production, including lighting, set-building, and painting.

Recent productions have exposed students to a broad range of theatrical styles, from Noel Coward’s “Blithe Spirit”, Christopher Marlowe’s “Doctor Faustus” to Greg Kotis and Mark Hollmann’s “Urinetown, the Musical” and Mac Wellman’s “A Murder of Crows.” In addition, workshop productions, staged readings of professional and student work and student directing projects expose students to a broader scope of styles and techniques. Productions take place in the fully-equipped theater in Palmer Auditorium, the more intimate Anthony Francis Nelson Theater Lab, and the new Tansill Black Box Theater at Hillyer Hall.
