Art Department

Study Away

Studying beyond the studios of our campus takes place in our Venice Program in conjunction with the Scuola Internazionale di Grafica in Venice, Italy.

The art department also participates in college-sponsored SATA programs that allow faculty and students to spend semesters away together in a number of countries. Students are also eligible to participate in the GLCA consortium of student interns, studying and working with professional artists in New York City.

Connecticut College encourages its students to take advantage of opportunities to study away or abroad. Regular Study Abroad programs are available through the Office of National and International Programs.

Connecticut College in Venice: Semester Program

The Connecticut College Venice Program is an intensive semester of studio instruction, art history and language. The highlights:

  • Art courses take full advantage of the historical and visual benefits offered by an intimate exposure to Venice in particular and Italian culture in general
  • Art History courses focus on the history of Venetian art and architecture with lectures, on-site visits to churches, museums, special collections and day trips outside Venice.
  • Italian langauge is taught daily for the first six weeks as an immersion into conversational skills and basic understanding of the Italian language.
  • Studio Art focuses on intaglio printmaking, painting, drawing and other courses as offered by the Scuola. Students with advanced knowledge in any of these areas may also work independently with the attending Connecticut College faculty.

Course credits will be assigned by Connecticut College.
For more information, visit the Scuola Internazionale di Grafica and to view the galleries and art studios.
